We’re partners with global institutions and funders to support researchers publish gold open access in their chosen journals. These agreements often mean that individual authors can publish open access at no cost to themselves or benefit from discounted article publishing charges (APCs). Our short guide to open access publishing definitions has more information on gold open access and APCs.
On this page, you can explore our current open access agreements, find out if you’re eligible, and how to access the funds. We have labelled the transformative agreements by where they are. New agreements are being made all the time, so do check back here, each time you’re preparing to publish.

If you’re funded by any of the participating Association of Medical Research Charity member charities, you can currently publish your research completely free of cost on AMRC Open Research. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation? On Gates Open Research, APCs are funded centrally by the Foundation, meaning researchers partially or wholly Gates-funded can publish on the platform at no direct cost to themselves. Each publication must have at least one author who has been, or still is, a recipient of a Gates Foundation grant. On submission, authors are asked for the relevant grant number.
All content published on HRB Open Research is fully open access immediately on publication, with APCs funded by the Irish Health Research Board. Researchers who held an active HRB grant, or were working on a HRB-funded/co-funded grant on or since 1 January 2017 can publish on this platform at no direct cost to themselves. Authors will need to provide details of their HRB grant at the point of submission.
Open Research Europe is an open access publishing platform for the publication of research stemming from Horizon 2020 funding. On submission, authors are asked for the details of their Horizon 2020 grant to verify eligibility.

Each publication must have at least one author who has been, or still is, a recipient of a Wellcome grant. Upon submission, authors are asked for details of their Wellcome grant to confirm eligibility.
