Welcome to our second session in the webinar series ‘Integrating Science and Society for Sustainability’ that we are hosting in collaboration with the Indian National Science Academy.

This session focused on the evolving landscape of interdisciplinary research in India, and the intersection of the sciences and humanities, the need for dialogue, and knowledge sharing.

About the speakers

Prof. Shiv Visvanathan is Professor and Vice-Dean, and Director of the Centre for the Study of Knowledge Systems at O.P. Jindal Global University. His work has explored the question of alternatives as a dialogue between the West and India. His writings have explored the psychological, cultural, and political relations of science; the nature of society and technology; and linkages between the scientific establishment and structures of the state.

He held an adjunct professorship at Raman Research Institute, Bangalore. He was Henry Luce Professor at Smith College Massachusetts. He was also a Visiting Professor at Stanford University and Center for Cultural Studies, Goldsmith College, University of London, Arizona State University, and some other Indian universities. 

Prof. Arun Grover, a Physicist from TIFR, Mumbai, served as the Vice Chancellor of his alma mater Panjab University, Chandigarh from 2012-18. He nucleated Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC) in 2012, a precursor of City Based Knowledge Clusters supported by the Government today, to strengthen inter-institutional programs and promote Academia-Industry synergy.

Rimina Mohapatra is Publishing Manager, Routledge and CRC Press, Taylor & Francis Group, Informa plc. In her current role, she leads and mentors (Advanced Learning) Editorial books teams, including Europa, Development Editorial Research, and editorial consultants. Until early 2022, she worked with the Routledge India Originals editorial division, developing and publishing academic books in the humanities & social sciences list for 15 years since its inception in South Asia in 2005.

She has collaborated with authors and institutes, and managed editorial, production, and design teams, as well as been the key liaison for several departments. She has supported a global network and community of academics, researchers, authors, experts and series editors in our areas of expertise, fostering product and partnership opportunities that contribute to the academic field, professional practice, and our publishing programs. As a member of the India Senior Leadership Team, she works with colleagues on strategic approaches and cross-functional collaborations. In addition, she serves as the Sponsor and Lead for the India Internal Communications team. In her other life, she is the author of Hegel’s India and editor of Reading Hegel.
