Open access (OA) makes published academic articles freely and permanently available online. Anyone, anywhere can read and build upon this research. We offer a wide range of open access publishing options for you to choose from, including:
Taylor & Francis and Routledge Open: a broad range of full open access journals, providing open choices whatever field you’re working in.
Taylor & Francis and Routledge Open Select: also known as “hybrid open access”, publish OA in your favorite journal alongside a mix of open and subscription articles.
The Elevate Series: a series of hand-picked journals that offer the option to share research openly and at pace, with a fast, streamlined experience and extra support in navigating the publication process, thanks to our dedicated in-house Editorial team.
The Critical Insights Series: a series of selective, forward-thinking open access journals that present diverse perspectives on the complex issues facing our world, led by recognized experts in the field.
F1000 Research: an open research publishing platform offering rapid publication of your articles and other research outputs with a completely open workflow.

Open access agreements and funding
We’re partnering with institutions and funders around the world to help researchers publish open access in their chosen journals at little or no cost to themselves. Find out whether you can choose open access using one of these agreements.
We believe every researcher should have realistic open access choices available to them, regardless of their funding. That’s why we also offer discounts and waivers to researchers in developing countries who want to publish in full open access journals.
Funder open access policies
Many research funders now have policies requiring you to choose open access. Find out about the Taylor & Francis OA options that will ensure your articles are made freely available in a way that complies with your funder’s mandates.
Building on our extensive range of open access publishing options, we’re encouraging all authors to consider additional open research opportunities. Many Taylor & Francis policies and services are available to support you in making choices that lead to more open scholarly communications.
For example, in addition to publishing original research articles, the F1000Research platform also gives you the opportunity to share a wide range of different outputs of your work, including documents, posters, slide decks, data notes, and study protocols.
Registered Reports
F1000Research and 16 Taylor & Francis journals accept Registered Report submissions. Registered Reports change the way that experiments are designed and conducted by breaking the peer review process into two parts. The first round of peer review is much earlier in the process than the standard research workflow, after the experiment has been designed but before any data has been collected or analyzed.
Open Science Badges
Researchers submitting to journals that support this Center for Open Science (COS) initiative have the opportunity to apply for one or more Open Science Badges. COS currently offers three badges: Open Data, Preregistered, and Open Materials. If your article meets the criteria the badge(s) will be displayed within your article on Taylor & Francis Online.
We want to create an environment where researchers can open up research data in a way that is appropriate to their field. We believe that data should be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reproduceable (FAIR).
Making your data available can increase the discoverability of your research, increasing its impact and ensuring you get credit for all your work. It also improves the robustness of the research process, supporting validation, research transparency, reproducibility, and replicability of results.
Most Taylor & Francis and Routledge journals already have a data sharing policy which encourages you to make the data associated with your article freely available for others. And a growing number of titles specifically require you to share your data under an open license which allows re-use by all.
As of April 2021, all new Taylor & Francis book publications entering the production process are encouraged to adhere to the Books Data Sharing Policy.
The F1000Research platform has a progressive open data policy, which requires all articles to include citations to repositories that host the data underlying results, together with details of any software used to process these results. There are many different models of peer review, each of which supports researchers in publishing the best possible article and ensures that published research is trusted.
Among the peer review options we offer is the open and transparent peer review process of the F1000Research platform. In this post-publication model, each peer review report, plus the approval status selected by the reviewer, is published with the reviewer’s name and affiliation alongside the article. Authors are encouraged to respond openly to the peer review reports and can publish revised versions of their article, if they wish.
