Research Communication Lab 3: Fundamentals of research integrity & publishing ethics

What the event covered

This workshop explores research integrity and publishing ethics, addressing common issues like authorship, AI use, and post-publication notices. Participants will understand ethical practices, avoid submission issues, and learn acceptable AI uses in scholarly publishing.

This webinar is part of The Research Communication Lab, a year-long, 11-part program designed to help researchers navigate scholarly publishing and maximize their impact. Open to all, it includes monthly live sessions, pre-recorded content for flexible learning, and covers topics like academic writing, peer review, publishing ethics, research data management, and using social media for visibility.

About the speakers

Dr Nick Wise is a Research Integrity Manager at Taylor & Francis. Before this, in his spare time he was an amateur research sleuth, investigating paper mills and authorship for sale schemes amongst other issues. During the day, he was a researcher in fluid dynamics and engineering at the University of Cambridge.

Julia Gunn is a Research Integrity Manager on the Publishing Ethics & Integrity team at Taylor & Francis. She has a Ph.D. in History from the University of Pennsylvania, where she previously taught courses on research methods in the humanities and social sciences. Since joining the Ethics team, Julia provides colleagues across Editorial with advice and support on a wide range of ethical and research integrity issues.
