Research Communication Lab 7: Research data management and sharing

What to expect at the event

This session focuses on preparing datasets for sharing, best practices for repositories, and writing Data Availability Statements. Participants will learn ethical and legal aspects of data sharing and strategies for handling sensitive data.

This webinar is part of The Research Communication Lab, a year-long, 11-part program designed to help researchers navigate scholarly publishing and maximize their impact. Open to all, it includes monthly live sessions, pre-recorded content for flexible learning, and covers topics like academic writing, peer review, publishing ethics, research data management, and using social media for visibility.

About the speakers

Matt Cannon is the Associate Director of Open Science Programmes. He has extensive experience in academic publishing, having worked at Taylor & Francis Group since 2008 in various editorial roles. Matt has expertise in open research practices for journals, project management and cross-stakeholder collaboration.

Dr. Rebecca Taylor-Grant is Director of Open Science Strategy & Innovation at Taylor & Francis, leading the Open Science team which develops policies, practices and pilots to support the publication of open, transparent and reproducible research.

Rebecca has a background in data management for the humanities and social sciences and is co-chair of the STM Association’s Research Data Program Humanities Data Subgroup, as well as the Research Data Alliance’s Research Data Policy Interest Group. She is a qualified Open Data trainer certified by the Open Data Institute. Her doctoral thesis explored the connections between archival theory and research data management practice, using Ireland as a case study.
